Original 40-count Linen

Original 40-count Linen

This is a plain-woven linen fabric, made in Japan, which is a blend of linen and ramie yarns. It is dyed in the Enshu region of Hamamatsu, Japan, by artisans who are experts in natural materials. They use traditional handicraft methods to maximize the natural flavor of the material, achieving a linen fabric with "more beautiful fading and more realistic unevenness."

By skillfully balancing the firmness of ramie and the supple softness of linen, we've created a fabric that feels substantial yet soft, offering a refreshing and non-clinging texture against the skin.

Original quality born from an idea opposite to the norm

"Original 40-count Linen" was developed to achieve "more beautiful fading and a vintage-like texture." We experimented with dyes to create a realistic unevenness that arises by chance. This linen fabric represents the true essence of Kiji no Mori's original quality, born from an approach to fabric production that is the opposite of conventional methods.

Natural texture that brings out the best in linen's inherent yarn quality

"Original 40-count Linen" is a plain-woven linen fabric made in Japan, using strong 40-count 100% ramie for the warp and soft 40-count 100% linen for the weft. It is dyed in the Enshu region of Hamamatsu by artisans who are experts in natural materials, using traditional handicraft methods to maximize the natural flavor of the material, resulting in a natural texture.

Crisp, refreshing texture that doesn't cling to the skin

Realistic unevenness born from chance

To achieve a vintage feel like old clothes, we leverage the inherent yarn quality of linen and the properties of special dyes, intentionally allowing for accidental dyeing results to create a more realistic unevenness.

20 colors, each deepening in character with wear

"Original 40-count Linen" features a unique unevenness from the start, and it continues to fade (discolor) and deepen in character with each wash. The greatest charm of this linen fabric is that it develops a richer character the more it is worn.

Damage Dyed and Washed (ddw®) Processing

Unlike printed uneven dyeing, "Original 40-count Linen" is produced by applying special damage to the greige fabric and simultaneously dyeing it. This method carefully finishes each bolt over a long period, without altering the natural character of the fabric (greige fabric).

Processing Characteristics

Due to the characteristics of damage dyed and washed processing, there may be streaks, selvedge wrinkles, uneven dyeing, slubs, neps, and weaving wrinkles as shown in the image above. These are not defects but should be understood as natural characteristics of the fabric.

Enjoying more beautiful fading and more realistic unevenness

"Original 40-count Linen" features variations in dyeing and appearance that reflect the natural characteristics of the material itself, and these differences can also occur between colors and production lots. However, washing out further changes its appearance, allowing you to enjoy more beautiful fading and more realistic unevenness. We hope you will utilize its material character in your creative projects.
