Herringbone Vintage

This herringbone woven fabric is made of 100% cotton, with a tight weave and a dense texture. It is thick and firm, yet has a moist softness to it.

Herringbone Vintage is dyed using the advanced techniques of Hamamatsu's batch dyers. The biggest feature of this fabric is that while it starts with a vibrant color, it will naturally develop scuffs and marks over years of use, creating a deep and rich aged appearance.

To bring out the best in this tightly woven fabric, we employ the "vintage processing" method, which is also the name of "Herringbone Vintage". This method leverages the advanced techniques of batch dyers, passed down for generations in the Enshu region, to achieve vibrant colors without compromising the natural texture of natural materials.

Generally, dyed fabrics undergo strong chemical treatments to mass-produce uniform and clean fabrics. However, while this pre-treatment maintains quality, it can compromise the natural texture of the material itself. Focusing on this, we at our company have reached "vintage processing" by daring to avoid chemical treatments and mechanical tension or pressure, instead relying on traditional artisanal methods to maximize the inherent qualities of natural materials.

The daily production volume is inefficient compared to mass production, and we cannot produce a large quantity at once.
Nevertheless, by slowly and carefully dyeing the fabric over time, the delicate expressions inherent to the material emerge without being lost, resulting in a uniquely natural texture that cannot be replicated.

Unlike fabrics that are distressed through post-processing, this "vintage processing" involves a slow and deliberate dyeing method.

Therefore, the biggest feature of this fabric is that while it starts with a vibrant color, it will naturally develop scuffs and marks over years of use, creating a deep and rich aged appearance.

Generally, aging is something that is absolutely avoided in terms of quality for anything other than jeans, so it is no exaggeration to say that this is a characteristic unique to "Herringbone Vintage".

About Needles and Thread

・Seaming: Sewing machine needle No. 11-14, Sewing thread No. 60

・For prominent stitching: Sewing machine needle No. 16, Sewing thread No. 30

　Please Note　

The fabric has a high weave density and a tight weave.

While it is possible to sew with a home sewing machine, sewing may be difficult depending on the machine's specifications, so please consider the sewing specifications in advance.

About Creases from Folding

Typically, fabric is packaged folded.

If folding creases are noticeable, they can be smoothed out with an iron.

・Set the iron to a medium temperature and use steam.

・Iron from the reverse side, and when ironing the front, always use a pressing cloth.

・After ironing, lay the fabric flat and allow it to cool before use.

　Please Note　

Applying strong, direct heat with a hot iron can damage the fibers and cause marks (whitening).

Leaving the fabric folded for a long period can cause the creased areas to fade and mark due to sun exposure.

Please note that sun-induced marks cannot be removed with an iron.

About Fabric Shrinkage

The fabric is already processed, so it can be used as is.

However, natural fibers inherently shrink slightly when washed with water.

・Shrinkage rate of No. 11 Canvas Vintage: Approximately 5% in the warp direction. Since shrinkage occurs in the warp direction, please account for shrinkage when washing the garment after tailoring.

About Pre-washing and Washing

"No. 11 Canvas Vintage" has absolutely no post-processing such as sizing, paraffin treatment (waxing), or water repellent treatment.

Its thickness and strong durability are achieved solely by the weave density, and it has a natural firmness, so pre-washing and washing are possible.

Whether to pre-wash: Pre-washing is not always necessary. Please decide based on the item and purpose.

　Please Note　

・When pre-washing (pre-shrinking), always do so individually.

Washing multiple colored fabrics together may cause color transfer.

・After soaking in a sufficient amount of water for approximately 1-2 hours, gently wring out the excess water, flatten the fabric to prevent unnecessary wrinkles, and hang dry in the shade.

・Please be careful as strong rubbing or scrubbing while wet may leave white marks.

・For pre-shrinking and ironing, iron when the fabric is semi-dry, following the instructions under [About Creases from Folding] above. Please note that we are not responsible for any issues arising from fabric pre-treatment (pre-shrinking, pre-washing) or sewing.
