ヘリンボンヴィンテージ

Herringbone Vintage

This is a tightly woven, densely packed herringbone fabric made from 100% cotton. It is thick and firm, yet has a soft and supple feel.

Herringbone Vintage is dyed using the advanced techniques of batch dyers in Hamamatsu. The biggest feature of this fabric is that it starts with vibrant colors, and as it is used over many years, it naturally develops scuffs and fading, creating a rich, aged look (patina).

To bring out the best in this tightly woven fabric, the "Vintage Processing" method, which is also the name "Herringbone Vintage," utilizes the advanced techniques of batch dyers passed down in the Enshu region for centuries. This method achieves vibrant colors without compromising the natural texture of the natural materials.

ヘリンボンヴィンテージの製造風景

Generally, dyed and processed fabrics undergo strong chemical treatments for mass production of uniform, beautiful fabrics. However, while this pre-treatment maintains quality, it also compromises the natural texture of the natural materials. Focusing on this, our company dared to avoid chemical treatments and mechanical tension or pressure, and instead, through traditional manual labor, arrived at "Vintage Processing" to maximize the inherent qualities of natural materials.

The daily production volume is inefficient compared to mass production, and it is not possible to make large quantities at once.
Nevertheless, by slowly and carefully dyeing the fabric over time, the delicate texture inherent to the material is revealed without being lost, resulting in a unique and natural texture that is unparalleled.

洗いをかけたあと一反一反丁寧に手作業で伸ばされていく生地
After washing, each roll of fabric is carefully stretched by hand.

Unlike post-processing that applies a distressed look, this "vintage processing" involves a slow and deliberate dyeing method.

Therefore, the biggest feature of this fabric is that it starts with vibrant colors, and as it is used over many years, it naturally develops scuffs and fading, creating a rich, aged look (patina).

Generally, aging (patina) is something that is absolutely avoided in quality control for fabrics other than jeans. Therefore, it is no exaggeration to say that this is a unique feature of "Herringbone Vintage" alone.

Handling of "Herringbone Vintage"

About needles and thread

・For basic stitching: Sewing machine needle #11-#14, Sewing machine thread #60
・To emphasize stitching: Sewing machine needle #16, Sewing machine thread #30

 Notes
The fabric has a high weave density and is tightly packed.
While it is possible to sew with a home sewing machine, depending on the machine's specifications, it may be difficult to sew, so please consider your sewing method in advance.

About fold creases

Typically, fabric is packed in a folded state.
If fold creases are prominent, they can be smoothed out with an iron.
・Use a medium iron setting and steam.
・Iron from the reverse side; when ironing the face side, always use a pressing cloth.
・After ironing, lay the fabric flat and allow it to cool before use.

 Caution
Applying a hot iron directly and too forcefully can damage the fibers and cause marks (whitening).
If left folded for a long period, the creased areas may fade and develop marks from sun exposure.
Please note that sun-induced marks cannot be removed with ironing.

About fabric shrinkage

The fabric is already processed, so it can be used as is.
However, natural fibers, due to their inherent characteristics, may shrink slightly when washed with water.
・Shrinkage rate of No. 11 Canvas Vintage: Approximately 5% in the warp direction. Please account for shrinkage in the warp direction when washing with water after tailoring.

About pre-washing and washing

"No. 11 Canvas Vintage" does not undergo any post-processing such as sizing, paraffin treatment (waxing), or water repellent treatment.
The thickness and strength are achieved solely by the density of the weave, resulting in a naturally firm texture, so pre-washing and washing are possible.

Pre-washing: It is not always necessary to pre-wash. Please decide based on the item and purpose.

 Caution
・When pre-washing (preparing the fabric), always do it separately.
Washing multiple colored fabrics together may cause color transfer.
・Soak in plenty of water for about 1 to 2 hours, then gently wring, flatten to prevent unnecessary wrinkles, and hang dry in the shade.
・Please note that rubbing or scrubbing the fabric vigorously when wet may leave white marks.
・For pre-washing ironing, proceed as described in "About fold creases" above, starting when the fabric is semi-dry. Please note that we are not responsible for any defects caused by fabric pre-treatment (preparing the fabric, pre-washing) or sewing.

 Please Note
Ecru (unbleached) fabric may show characteristic black specks in places on the surface.
Please understand this as part of its natural texture.
