"Grow-Your-Own Used Canvas Fabric" Created by You
While initially stiff, this canvas fabric softens gradually with use, developing unique abrasions and fading, allowing you to enjoy your own personalized used look. The joy of "growing" it is the greatest appeal of this fabric.

Domestically Produced by Japanese Artisans
"Cotton Canvas Rudeback Half" is a durable plain weave canvas fabric made from 22/2 yarn. Finished with care, one bolt at a time, by local dyers in Hamamatsu, it possesses a warmth unique to Japanese craftsmanship. The natural cotton slubs and dimensional yarn create a rustic and profound texture.

Texture Created by Rudeback Half® Processing
"Cotton Canvas Rudeback Half" undergoes "Rudeback® Half" processing, which involves hand-dyeing small batches while leveraging the natural unevenness of the material without mercerization. The subtle wrinkles and random dye variations create a soft, plump, and rich texture.
*Mercerization: A pre-treatment to smooth the fabric surface before dyeing. By intentionally omitting it, the natural texture of the material is preserved.

Texture Develops with Use
"Cotton Canvas Rudeback Half" features a sophisticated faded finish, allowing it to soften and develop character with wear, creating beautiful abrasions and fading over time. This canvas fabric allows you to cultivate your own unique, used look.

18 Rich Colors to Expand the Joy of Nurturing with Your Own Hands
Since its launch in 2010, "Cotton Canvas Rudeback Half" has offered 18 colors based on natural unbleached fabric. The subdued, muted tones naturally fade with use, creating depth in the texture. This fabric's appeal lies in how it changes over time, evolving into "your unique piece" in your daily life.

Different Aging for Each Color
"Cotton Canvas Rudeback Half" exhibits different aging characteristics depending on the color.
Furthermore, the texture also changes based on the user's lifestyle, such as washing frequency and how it's used.

Relatively light colors (5/Off, KN/Natural, 1/Beige, 14/Dark Beige) show gentle fading, allowing you to enjoy a natural texture for a long time.

On the other hand, medium-density colors such as (6/Pistachio, 13/Khaki, 7/Maroon Brown, 16/Charcoal) are more prone to fading with use, allowing you to enjoy a deeper, more vintage-like aging.
If you want to minimize fading, light colors are recommended. If you want to fully enjoy a used or vintage look, medium-density colors are recommended.
*The degree of aging varies depending on usage conditions. Please be aware of this in advance.

About KN/Natural
KN/Natural is an undyed finish.
By intentionally leaving cotton slubs during processing, we bring out the material's inherent rusticity and depth.
Enjoy a natural and vintage-like appearance.

Crafted with Care by Artisans
Our fabrics at NunonoMori are created with the skilled techniques and intuition of artisans in Hamamatsu, who are deeply knowledgeable about natural fibers, in terms of texture creation, surface appearance, and dyeing techniques.
Rudeback® Half Processing
Rudeback® Half processing is NunonoMori's unique dyeing process designed to achieve a vintage-like texture that feels well-worn. Without putting excessive stress on the fabric (greige fabric), it is repeatedly dyed with sulfur dyes in a discontinuous, manual process to achieve vibrant colors, then washed and finished. Fabrics treated with sulfur dyes soften with repeated washing and develop wrinkles from use, abrasions, and fading, yet retain a certain degree of their original character.
Handling Fabrics Dyed with Sulfur Dyes
- Fabrics dyed with sulfur dyes are more prone to fading and discoloration than regular fabrics. While general washing is possible, to minimize fading, use a neutral detergent such as a delicates wash and wash with water.
- Lightfastness is very low; discoloration and fading can occur not only during washing but also from direct sunlight or fluorescent lights. Always store in a place away from light.
- If you are sensitive to color fading, please avoid using fabrics dyed with sulfur dyes.
Processing Characteristics
There may be streaks, selvedge wrinkles, dyeing irregularities, slubs, neps, and weaving wrinkles as shown in the image above. These are not defects, but rather natural characteristics of the fabric.

While it has a moderate crispness when new, it softens with repeated use, and even the same color can develop completely different looks depending on how it's used.
Enjoy the "unique used look" that develops in your daily life.

FAQ
Q: Is pre-washing necessary? Will it shrink when washed?
A: The shrinkage rate is negligible, approximately 1%, so pre-washing is not essential.
Q: Why does it fade when washed?
A: This is because we use "sulfur dyes," which, like indigo, are prone to fading. If you wish to minimize fading, we recommend gently hand-washing with a neutral detergent.
Q: Can I sew it with a home sewing machine?
A: Yes, it can be sewn with a home sewing machine.
We recommend using sewing machine needles from 11 to 14 gauge and 60-weight thread (for medium-weight fabrics).
