The process of singeing the fuzz on the fabric surface

The raw ramie linen (kibata) has strong fuzz, so preliminary processing called singeing (keyaki) is performed at a Japanese factory to burn off and remove the surface fuzz. This extra step smooths the fabric and makes it soft to the touch.
